• The city is situated on the River Severn, the longest river in Britain. • The cathedral dates from the 11th Century and contains the tomb of King John who signed the Magna Carta in 1215. • Oliver Cromwell defeated Prince Charles (son of the executed King Charles I) at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. • The famous British composer, Edward Elgar, was born in Worcester. • Worcester cathedral and Edward Elgar are pictured on the back of the British £20 note! • The Royal Worcester Porcelain factory is still in the city, although some of the manufacturing now takes place in China. • The Lea & Perrins factory still makes Worcestershire Sauce in the city. • Classic sports cars are still made at the Morgan factory close to Worcester.
